An urgent recall has been issued by a dairy company for a variety of its goat cheeses. Lactalis UK & Ireland have warned customers not to eat its Cricket St Thomas Capricorn Goat Cheese, Somerset Capricorn Goat Cheese, and Co-op Goats Cheese after a potential listeria contamination.
Customers should instead return the products to supermarkets. Whilst the contamination has not been confirmed and the health risk to the public remains low, there remains a small risk of infection reports The Daily Mirror.
A Lactalis statement read: "As consumer safety is our top priority, we are recalling one batch of the products mentioned above as a precautionary measure due to a small risk that these products may contain listeria. Listeria infection in healthy people is usually either unnoticed or may cause very mild illness.

"However, it can have more serious consequences for some people, particularly those with pre-existing health conditions and pregnant women. The health risk to the public remains low and individuals should only seek medical attention if they develop symptoms.
"If you have purchased the above products with a Use by Date of 26 May 2023, do not eat them, instead return them to the store where you bought them for a full refund. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product, and for the inconvenience caused."
The company is recalling four varieties of the product, which the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed. The foods watchdog urged customers to avoid eating any of the goats cheeses, and to return them to where they were bought.
