Urgent police search for little girl who knocked on door and said 'I'm lost'

Police have launched an urgent search for a young girl who knocked on a stranger's door saying she was lost, before running away.

Officers attended the incident around 11am this morning in the Hele area of Torquay, Devon, after the youngster was seen alone.

She was described as being around six years old, white, with long blonde hair and was wearing a black coat, reports the Mirror.

Devon and Cornwall Police, who are investigating, have since released a CCTV of the youngster in an attempt to trace her.

A spokesperson said the girl was seen running in the direction of Farmfoods on the B3199 road, at around 11am, and officers were now acarrying out door-to-door inquiries nearby.

They said: "Our primary objective is to identify and find this little girl so that we can check her safety and welfare. Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries in efforts to identify her and searches are ongoing to find her.

"The girl didn't present as being in distress or upset and was last seen running in the direction of Farmfoods at around 11am.

"We have released a CCTV picture of her in hopes that someone might recognise her and let us know who she is."

Anyone who recognises the girl in the image or has any information which may assist police is asked to call 999 quoting log 227 of April 5.
