Urgent police appeal after man tried to walk into Piccadilly station with 'large machete'

Police have released an image of a person they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries into a man who was seen carrying a machete at Piccadilly Station.

A man dropped a large machete as he approached the station’s Piccadilly Approach entrance at around 10am on Sunday, April 30.

The man initially returned to retrieve the weapon, but decided against it after noticing onlookers nearby.

Police believe the man in the CCTV image may have vital information which can help officers with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the man in the photo is asked to contact police.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers investigating a man carrying a machete at Manchester Piccadilly station are releasing this image in connection.

“At around 10am on Sunday 30 April, a man dropped a large machete as he approached the station's Piccadilly Approach entrance.

“Despite first returning to retrieve the weapon, he decided against it when he realised onlookers had witnessed him drop the machete.

“Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have useful information which could help their investigation.”
