Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after girl, 15, shot

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 15-year-old girl was shot at a bus stop.

Merseyside Police rushed to Upper Warwick Street, in Toxteth, at around 5.10pm on Tuesday evening following reports of a shooting.

Once at the scene they found a girl, 15, had been shot and she was rushed to hospital in a serious condition.

A short time later, police confirmed a man in his 20s arrived at hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.

Police have since confirmed the girl is now in a stable condition.

A 21-year-old man from Toxteth has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Woman used abuse 'code word' in Boots to escape clutches of violent partner

A victim living in fear of her violent and controlling partner managed to escape his clutches by using a domestic abuse code word.

The frightened woman went into Boots pharmacy in Bootle and asked for “Ani” which staff knew meant she needed help and they took her into a back room.

Police were contacted and her abuser, Anthony Ballard, was arrested and interviewed.

He denied the allegations against him but has now pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and assault causing actual bodily harm and has been jailed for two years.

Sentencing him Judge Stuart Driver, QC said the coercive behaviour offence spanned months and her victim impact statement revealed she has since been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and been prescribed medication.

He told Ballard, of Marsh Lane, Bootle, he accepted his "mental health has been poor but appropriate punishment can only be achieved by immediate imprisonment".

Woman plunges Audi into Queens Dock after breaking through barriers

A woman plunged her Audi into Queens Dock after breaking through a set of metal barriers

Emergency services rushed to King’s Parade at Queens Dock at around 11pm on Tuesday after reports of a car in the water.

Once at the scene officers found a woman had driven her Audi through a metal barrier and into the dock.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service, along with the RNLI, we’re all called to the scene.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the woman driving the car managed to free herself from the vehicle while it was still floating and was checked over by paramedics.

The car has now completely submerged under the water and officers have cordoned off the section of fence broken by the car.
