Updated Georgia injury report ahead of UGA vs Tennessee

The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (10-0, 7-0 SEC) are set to take on the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers (7-3, 3-3 SEC) in Neyland Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be televised on CBS.

After playing the majority of the season with a slew of injuries to key players, the Bulldogs are the healthiest they’ve been entering their last SEC matchup of the regular season.

Georgia saw the return of star tight end Brock Bowers, starting right tackle Amarius Mims and freshman running back Roderick Robinson in last week’s 52-17 drubbing of then No. 9 Ole Miss.

Besides losing redshirt freshman cornerback Julian Humphrey to an upper-body injury, the Bulldogs escaped the matchup predominantly unscathed.

Here’s our updated Georgia injury report, including recent quotes from head coach Kirby Smart:

DL Warren Brinson

Syndication: Online Athens

Injury: Calf

Status: Questionable

Brinson played in a limited capacity last week due to a nagging calf injury, which has caused him to miss practice time this week

“Warren had a calf injury, ” Smart said. “We are hoping to get him back. He hasn’t been able to do much this week. He felt it in the game some. We are hoping to get him back. He was out there today (Tuesday) moving around.

WR CJ Smith

Syndication: Online Athens

Injury: Knee

Status: Questionable

Smith hasn’t played since the Florida matchup due to a knee injury. Smart wasn’t clear on the timetable for the redshirt freshman’s return.

“C.J. has been dealing with a knee injury that has been bothering him,” Smart said. “He has had it off and on for a while. We are hoping to get him back soon.”

CB Julian Humphrey

Injury: Arm

Status: Doubtful

Humphrey exited the Ole Miss game with an upper-body injury and didn’t return. The redshirt freshman had seen an uptick in snaps at cornerback recently, but is expected to miss time.

“I don’t know how long it’s going to be,” Smart said. “He’s got a dinged-up injury … that hopefully we’re able to get him back from, but don’t know how long it’s going to be. There’s a chance, but you never know. But he’s dinged up. I’m hoping we can get him back as soon as possible.”

Injury: Arm

Status: Doubtful

Dumas-Johnson suffered a fractured forearm versus Missouri and didn’t play last week versus Ole Miss. The severity of the injury is unknown and Smart didn’t share any specifics regarding his status this week.

“In terms of (Dumas-Johnson), again, we’re trying to get him back,” Smart said.”

Injury: Ankle

Status: Probable

Amarius Mims, who is recovering to full strength from TightRope surgery, may not play every snap, but Kirby Smart notes that Mims is feeling good.

He has looked good. He played good. He feels more comfortable with each day. The highs and lows of that injury are pretty common. He feels good.

Tight end Brock Bowers

Online Athens

Injury: Ankle

Status: Probable

Brock Bowers did not play as many snaps as usual against Ole Miss. However, he made an impact with three catches for 34 yards and a touchdown. Look for Bowers to have a similar role against Tennessee.

I’m sure he had more snaps in other games. But he’s in good shape. He’s conditioned. I don’t know that he’s 100%, but he’s healthy and safe enough to play.

RB Branson Robinson

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Injury: Knee

Status: Out for season

Robinson will miss the 2023 season due to a torn patella tendon suffered in fall camp. Smart was asked last week if Robinson will be cleared by spring practice.

“The closest thing we had was Rian Davis went through this the one year, and it’s a long, arduous process. I can’t answer that. I think he’ll probably be cleared, but I don’t know if he’ll be able to go through live tackling and everything.”
