The No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 SEC) are set to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-5, 4-3 ACC) in the latest edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate to cap off the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Bobby Dodd Stadium, televised on ABC.
The Bulldogs didn’t escape last week’s 38-10 win at No. 21 Tennessee without injuries. Georgia lost starting right guard Tate Ratledge to a knee injury and wide receiver Rara Thomas to a foot injury.
Starting wideout Ladd McConkey played limited snaps due to an ankle injury suffered the week prior, while defensive lineman Warren Brinson didn’t make the trip to Knoxville due to a calf strain.
It’s safe to assume the Bulldogs won’t be rushing players back this week with an SEC Championship battle with No. 8 Alabama slated for Dec. 2.
Here’s our updated Georgia injury report, including recent quotes from head coach Kirby Smart:
DL Warren Brinson
Injury: Calf
Status: Questionable
Brinson played in a limited capacity against Ole Miss in Week 11 before missing last week’s game. Head coach Kirby Smart said Brinson has been doing more in practice this week.
“Warren took some reps today (Tuesday),” Smart said. “I thought he did a good job pushing through.”
OG Tate Ratledge
Injury: Knee
Status: Questionable
Ratledge exited the Tennessee game due to a knee injury that was later confirmed to be a bone bruise. While Ratledge is getting better, Smart said he didn’t take reps on Tuesday.
“Tate’s much better, moving, running, but didn’t take reps.”
WR Ladd McConkey
Injury: Ankle
Status: Questionable
McConkey played only handful of snaps last week due to an ankle injury suffered versus Ole Miss. Smart said that the injury won’t require surgery.
“Ladd’s still recovering. Trying to get him back. Hasn’t been able to do much. We’ll find out more tomorrow or the next day.”
WR Rara Thomas
Injury: Foot
Status: Questionable
Thomas caught an 18-yard pass last week before exiting the game with a foot injury. Thomas’ status is similar to that of McConkey.
“We’ve been keeping the weight and the pressure off of it, but hoping we can get him back as well. We’ll see.”
WR CJ Smith
Injury: Knee
Status: Questionable
Smith hasn’t played since the Florida matchup due to a knee injury. Smart wasn’t clear on the timetable for the redshirt freshman’s return when asked last week.
“C.J. has been dealing with a knee injury that has been bothering him,” Smart said. “He has had it off and on for a while. We are hoping to get him back soon.”
CB Julian Humphrey
Injury: Shoulder
Status: Questionable
Humphrey exited the Ole Miss game with a shoulder injury and didn’t play last week at Tennessee. We haven’t received an update on his status since last week.
“I don’t know how long it’s going to be,” Smart said. “He’s got a dinged-up injury … that hopefully we’re able to get him back from, but don’t know how long it’s going to be. There’s a chance, but you never know. But he’s dinged up. I’m hoping we can get him back as soon as possible.”
LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Injury: Arm
Status: Doubtful
Dumas-Johnson suffered a fractured forearm versus Missouri and didn’t in the last two games. The severity of the injury is unknown. Smart’s last update on Johnson’s status came last week.
“In terms of (Dumas-Johnson), again, we’re trying to get him back,” Smart said.”
RB Branson Robinson
Injury: Knee
Status: Out for season
Robinson will miss the 2023 season due to a torn patella tendon suffered in fall camp. Smart was asked ahead of Ole Miss if Robinson will be cleared by spring practice.
“The closest thing we had was Rian Davis went through this the one year, and it’s a long, arduous process. I can’t answer that. I think he’ll probably be cleared, but I don’t know if he’ll be able to go through live tackling and everything.”
