An update has been issued after a police car crash forced a major road to close.
Rimrose Road Southbound in Bootle was shut earlier today as photographs from the scene showed a police car on the pavement, smashing through railings and sustaining damage. A black Audi Q3 was also damaged in the collision.
Merseyside Police has now issued a statement to confirm a police car was involved in a crash and no injuries have been reported. It added: "We would like to thank the community for their patience whilst the road closures were in place and the matter was investigated."

According to traffic news service Inrix, the crash caused long queues in Knowsley before the cordon was lifted around 1pm.
When contacted on the incident, Merseyside Police also revealed officers were involved in another chase earlier this morning. A man was taken to hospital after being chased by police in West Derby and Kirkdale.
A statement said: "We can confirm that emergency services were on Boundary Street in Kirkdale today. At around 9.30am officers patrolling the area saw a man driving a silver Vauxhall Astra on Borough Road in West Derby, which failed to stop for patrols.
"A pursuit ensued, the vehicle then drove into a building on Boundary Street and the man made off from the scene. After a short pursuit the man was detained by patrols and was taken to hospital for treatment."
