- A Japanese national, detained in Iran since January, has been released on bail.
- Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said the release was verified on Monday, with Japan now pressing Iranian authorities for a full release of the individual, believed to be a journalist for Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK.
- The Committee to Protect Journalists reported that the journalist was arrested on 20 January by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and subsequently transferred to Evin Prison on 23 February.
- This release follows another Japanese citizen's release in March and occurred after diplomatic discussions between Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi.
- Evin Prison, known as a primary detention facility for journalists and political prisoners, also holds British couple Lindsay and Craig Foreman, who were sentenced to 10 years on espionage charges in 2025.
