BAREILLY: A young unmarried couple in their early 20s, was found hanging from a tree in Lakhimpur Kheri district on Saturday. The couple, both school dropouts, belonged to different castes and their families, small-time farmers, were against their relationship of two years.
On Friday night, they decided to elope and were found hanging the next morning. Police have sent the bodies for autopsy to ascertain the cause of their death. This is the second such incident reported from Kheri in the last one month.
Arti Devi, 20, a resident of Lonpurva village, had fallen in love with Kanhaiya Kumar, when they had gone to work in a brock kiln in Varanasi over two years ago. They had decided to marry but Arti’s father Ramkhilawan Kumar was against their marriage as Kanhaiya belonged to another community. Arti’s marriage was fixed with a man from the same community. Arti made several requests but her parents paid no heed.
On Friday, while everyone was sleeping, Arti left home with Kanhaiya. During midnight, her family learnt that she was missing and started looking for her. Police, who were informed, found that Kanhaiya was also missing from his house. Next morning, both of them were found hanging from a mango tree from the same rope. Kheri SHO Siyaram Verma said, “Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide as forensic experts have not recovered any evidence of foul-play. The autopsy report will ascertain the reason of death. No complaint has been lodged by either of the families.”
