MEERUT: Bulandshahr police on Sunday arrested two men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a minor Dalit girl in July 2021. The duo had allegedly filmed the act and one of them uploaded the video online recently. On learning about it, the girl’s parents informed the police.
In her complaint with Aurangabad police on Saturday, the girl’s mother claimed that an upper caste man and his brother-in-law abducted the girl, then 15 years old, while she was on way home from school in July last year.
“They threatened my daughter to keep quiet or else they would upload the video. So, she remained quiet. We got to know about the assault when my son saw the video,” said her victim's mother. The survivor was raped several times thereafter by the duo, her family claimed.
The girl's mother, in her complaint to SSP Santosh Singh, alleged the local police had refused to file her complaint which is why she was forced to approach him.
Pratap Singh, SHO of Aurangabad police station, told TOI that the two accused had been arrested. “An FIR has been lodged in the matter against the duo for gang rape and provisions of the IT Act and SC/ST Act.”
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
