VARANASI: The district court in Azamgarh on Saturday ordered to extend judicial remand of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA from Phoolpur Pavai, Ramakant Yadav by 14 days in Mahul Ahiraula hooch tragedy case. He is in jail since July 25. NSA was slapped on 3 accused, including Rangesh Yadav, Nadeem and Mohd Saleem, in this case on Saturday.
SP Azamgarh Anurag Arya said, "In the hooch tragedy case of Mahul area under the limits of Ahiraula police station, 13 persons are already in jail. They all have been booked under the Gangster Act. With the booking of Rangesh, Nadeem and Salim under NSA, the total number of accused on whom NSA has been slapped in this case has reached to six so far. After police produced the file of Mahul hooch tragedy before the court on Saturday, it ordered to extend Ramakant's judicial remand by 14 days." Azamgarh had witnessed a hooch tragedy in Mahul area in February when seven persons had lost their lives while many had lost eyesight. With the progress in investigation of this case, it came to light that spurious liquor had been sold from a licensed country liquor shop of Rangesh Yadav, who is a nephew of Ramakant Yadav. Following this, Ramakant had also been accused in this case although he contested the assembly election from Phoolpur Pavai and won on a SP ticket.
