UP assembly elections: AAP promises to spend 25 per cent of state budget on education

LUCKNOW: Aam Aadmi Party has promised to implement its Delhi education model by spending 25 per cent of the state’s budget on education if voted to power in Uttar Pradesh in its maiden assembly polls.

The party also promised 80 per cent reservation in government jobs for youth from UP and Lokpal Bill for getting various scams investigated, harping on the anti-corruption agenda on which it came to power in Delhi in 2014.

In its ‘Guarantee Patra’ released on Thursday, AAP said it will contest elections on the planks of power, education, employment, women empowerment, and agriculture, under which it has promised Rs 1,000 per month to women, Rs 5,000 unemployment assistance each month, 10 lakh jobs each year and waiver of all pending electricity dues.

MP and UP in-charge Sanjay Singh said the party has focused on holistic development of the state and brought several schemes for farmers, labourers, youth, women, and students.

“This is not an ordinary manifesto but a guarantee by the party. By our work in Delhi, we have shown that we do not make empty promises but deliver. This is our agreement with the people of UP,” he said.

For farmers, the party has promised to bring a law on minimum support price, creation of cow shelters across the state, waiver of all pending loans and free electricity. It will also implement door to door distribution of ration, a scheme that it earlier tried implementing in Delhi.

The party has also promised to give Rs 1 crore to the family of security personnel in case of their death on duty, besides a government job for one family member. Similarly, compensation of Rs 1 crore and a job to one family member will be given to families of corona warriors, including doctors, who died in the line of duty.

The party also promised free travel to women in public transport like in Delhi. A network of CCTV cameras will be set up across the state for better security. A Rs 10 lakh insurance cover each will be provided to roadside vendors and lawyers.

The manifesto says the Constitution will be taught in all government schools, Shiksha Mitras will be regularised and the new pension scheme will be reversed, as being demanded by various organisations.

The party will also implement the ‘Farishta Scheme’ and the accident victim policy under which any person injured in an accident will be treated for free in government and private hospitals.
