The University of Newcastle has improved its rating on the world scale, according to new international rankings.
The 2022 QS world rankings by subject assessed more than 1500 universities across the globe for their research quality, academic reputation and their international research network in five subject areas.
The rankings, released on Thursday, show the university has improved in the areas of arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.
It's ranking for social sciences and management rose by 52 places from 2021 to 2022.
Arts and humanities rose by 49 places and engineering and technology rose by 46 places, putting the university in the top 200 in the world.
The university's research and teaching in minerals and mining remains one of the best in the world, ranked at 29. Life sciences and medicine also improved by five places for the university, remaining in the top 200.
"To improve so significantly across the board is a real testament to our talented and dedicated staff who have excelled through an incredibly challenging two years," said University of Newcastle vice chancellor professor Alex Zelinsky.
"In law, an area that the university has focused on as an area of growth, we were pleased to rank in the top 300 in the world.
"Students who attend our university can feel confident they are receiving a world class education from experts in their fields."
