A host of movie monsters ranging from Michael Myers, Jason and Freddy to Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolf Man will soon be haunting the Las Vegas Strip when Universal Parks opens a new haunted house in Sin City based on the popular Halloween Horror Nights events.
Universal Parks & Resorts will open a new permanent horror-themed experience in Las Vegas built on the success of Halloween Horror Nights events at its theme parks in California, Florida, Japan and Singapore, according to Universal officials.
“Universal is known for our ability to deliver original, highly-themed and terrifying horror entertainment experiences for millions of fans every year,” Universal Parks New Ventures President Page Thompson said in a statement. “We are excited to give our global fanbase yet another way to get scared and have fun with fear in the heart of Las Vegas, the perfect place for this type of unique concept.”
Universal’s Las Vegas Horror Nights concept will be housed in a 110,000-square-foot indoor space at the Area15 entertainment district near the Las Vegas Strip.
The new Universal horror venue will be an anchor tenant of a 20-acre expansion of Area15 — best known as the home of Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart immersive art experience. An opening date has not yet been announced for the new Universal horror experience in Las Vegas.
The year-round Vegas Horror Nights venue promises to deliver a “new level of experiential entertainment” for horror fans hooked on the thrills and frights of the seasonal Halloween theme park events, according to Universal.
Universal’s Vegas Horror concept will draw on the movie studio’s vast library of classic horror films as well as new releases from today’s filmmakers.
Universal’s library of classic horror characters includes Frankenstein, Dracula, Werewolf of London, Wolf Man and The Mummy. Halloween Horror Nights has also worked with a new generation of horror filmmakers like Jason Blum (“Insidious,” “The Purge”), Jordan Peele (“Nope,” “Us”) and James Wan (“Saw,” “The Conjuring”).
Universal plans to continuously update the Vegas venue with new horror experiences tied to seasonal events.
The Halloween Horror Nights seasonal events at Universal’s theme parks in Hollywood and Orlando have featured haunted houses and mazes based on “Halloween,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Friday the 13th,” Nightmare on Elm Street,” “The Walking Dead,” “Stranger Things,” “American Horror Story,” “The Exorcist” and “The Shining.”
The Vegas Horror Nights venue will feature horror-themed immersive experiences, restaurants, bars, seasonal events and merchandise.
