One of the country's largest hospital operators now owns one of its largest virtual therapy platforms. Universal Health Services completed its acquisition of Talkspace on Monday, about five months after announcing the deal, for approximately $835 million.
For the more than 200 million people whose insurance plans, employers, schools, or government benefits already include Talkspace access, nothing changes immediately. The company will keep its brand and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary. What changes is the structure sitting behind the app, and that structure is the reason the transaction is worth reporting rather than filing under corporate news.
