A law enforcement expert floated a shocking theory that UnitedHealthcare's CEO Brian Thompson may have ordered his own assassination for "insurance purposes" during a CNN interview on Friday.
After CNN host Dana Bash asked whether Neill Franklin, a 34-year law enforcement veteran and past executive director for the Law Enforcement Action Partnership, believes police know the assassin's identity, Franklin shared there is a very good chance they do before presenting his wild theory.
"But I also I want to say something else that I know these criminal investigators are looking into as it relates to motive. There have been times when people have orchestrated their own demise for certain reasons. We know that," he shared.
When asked whether it could have been for insurance purposes, Franklin responded in the affirmative.
"Absolutely. Insurance purposes, you know, maybe they fear some type of investigation down the road. Maybe they want to leave their family in a in a good light. But there have been cases where people have orchestrated their own demise," Franklin added.
His reasoning was that the assassin "knew too much" about Thompson's movements throughout the day.
"He was laying in wait. Who would have that specific type of information as to what sidewalk he was going to be on?" Franklin prompted.
It has been three days since Thompson was shot and killed outside a Hilton hotel in Manhattan on Tuesday. Law enforcement said the search for his killer continues to move at a "steady pace."
