Uninsured driver sped at 70mph to reach post office before it closed

An uninsured driver who was caught speeding at 70mph in a 50mph limit claimed they were trying to get to the post office before it closed.

Wythenshawe police officers reported the motorist for all their offences and also seized the silver Vauxhall Astra that they had been driving.

Another uninsured driver, who did not hold a licence either, was also stopped by Wythenshawe police and found to have a young child and teenager as passengers.

The teenager was lying down in the boot, with the motorist also reported, while their Seat Ibiza was seized. No explanation was made public as to why the teenager was lying down in the rear of the car.

Both incidents were recounted on the official Greater Manchester Police Twitter account @gmptraffic in posts that were accompanied by photographs of the vehicles in question.

The post about the Vauxhall Astra incident read: "Apparently it’s okay to drive at 70mph in a 50 if you’re trying to get to the post office before it closes. Vehicle stopped by #XT54 @GMPWythenshawe. Checks revealed the vehicle was also uninsured. Driver reported for all offences and vehicle seized #165 @DriveInsured "

The post about the Seat Ibiza incident read: "This vehicle was stopped by #XT44, @GMPWythenshawe. Checks revealed the driver didn't hold a licence and wasn’t insured. Also in the vehicle was a young child and a teenager. The teenager was lying down in the boot Driver reported and vehicle seized #165 @DriveInsured "
