Residents in Amman were startled by unusual activity in the skies over different parts of the Jordanian capital early Sunday morning. Eyewitnesses reported seeing and hearing what appeared to be mid-air interceptions just before 2 a.m. local time.
One resident in west Amman described hearing explosions in the distance, followed by flares and flashes in the sky. Another resident in the same area expressed concern that the objects in the sky might land in their neighborhood, describing the bright lights and explosive sounds echoing through the night.
While the exact nature of the activity remains unclear, eyewitnesses likened the events to the Iron Dome defense system intercepting objects in the sky. They observed what seemed like shooting stars trailing down after the bright lights.
It has not been confirmed how many projectiles or interceptions occurred during the incident. The Jordanian government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the unusual sightings and sounds witnessed by residents.
