CHANDIGARH: Pointing at the grim scenario of unemployment in Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, the rate of joblessness crept up in the two neighbouring states at a time when it came down at the national level.
The situation worsened in July-September 2021, when compared with the previous quarter and corresponding quarter in the previous years, according to the Periodic Labour Force survey. The overall unemployment rate across all ages in urban areas of both the states for the September quarter of 2021-2022 surged over 2% from the previous quarter. Contrary to Haryana and Himachal, the unemployment rate in Punjab dropped in July-September 2021 in comparison to the same period in 2020 and remained largely at the same level as during the previous quarter.
