Organizers for the uncommitted movement stated on Wednesday that a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris during her visit to Michigan is not currently planned. Abbas Alawieh, a delegate for the movement at the Democratic National Convention, mentioned that while there hasn't been specific engagement with Harris' team regarding her trip to Detroit, a request for a meeting has been submitted to discuss an arms embargo.
Alawieh expressed hope that they would have the opportunity to address this matter directly with Harris. When asked about a meeting scheduled for Thursday, Alawieh confirmed that there is no meeting planned for that day. Harris is set to arrive in Michigan later on Wednesday to host a rally in Detroit alongside Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Another campaign event is scheduled for Thursday in the state.
Members of the uncommitted movement have indicated that they are encouraged by the initial signals from Harris' team and the party regarding their demands since Harris became the presumptive nominee. The group has requested a meeting with Harris, speaking time at the Democratic National Convention, and language in the party platform supporting a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and an arms embargo on Israel.
Alawieh emphasized that if Vice President Harris supports an arms embargo, the group would endorse her and actively encourage their supporters to vote for her. The uncommitted movement is keen on engaging with Harris and the Democratic Party to address their concerns and advocate for their proposed initiatives.
