Uncle Bryn's house from BBC show Gavin & Stacey is up for sale or rent

Some Welsh properties will go down in TV history as the location of a popular character's home. These include the cottage in Laugharne featured in S4C/BBC drama Keeping Faith; the substantial end of terrace on Canon Street in Barry where the unlikely house sharers were a vampire, werewolf and ghost in Being Human; and multiple houses across south Wales that were the bricks and mortar stars in Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Properties used for the highly popular comedy series Gavin & Stacey should also be added to the list and now you can live in Uncle Bryn's house as the three-bed mid-terrace on Trinity Street in Barry is on the market for £212,000. But if you fancy trying before you buy or aren't looking to purchase a property, it's also available to rent for £995 per calendar month.

In 2006 Lisa and Michael Edwards moved into the house on Trinity Street in Barry where the then-new BBC comedy drama Gavin & Stacey had filmed scenes for the first series just a short time before. They were unaware that their new home was a bit of a local star and Lisa only found out when she saw it featured on TV, in a scene where Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) is teaching Gavin the wonders of the internet at his home.

In 2019 when chatting to WalesOnline about living in Uncle Bryn's house Lisa told us: "The first time I realised I was in the house was watching it on TV. I thought it looked like my living room at the time and it was the weirdest feeling.

"Our neighbours were away at the time so I couldn't ask them so I rang the BBC. They said due to data protection they couldn't tell us - they said they were filming series two and if someone knocked on my door then we would know."

And the knock on the door did come and soon the couple couldn't believe they were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ruth Jones, James Corden and Rob Brydon.

Much to the disappointment of friends and family though, Smithy and Bryn never actually broke out in a sweat in the house - with the pair's iconic gym scene filmed in a room styled to look like Lisa's home. However, the couple's sofa did play a part in the scenes, mainly because it was so big it was a challenge to pivot it out of the house.

Lisa said: "For season two they completely re-did the living room. There were stuffed animals and tanks - it didn't look even slightly like our living room. They catalogued everything and had to put it all back in the right place.

"We had this DFS sofa and when we moved it in it was a real struggle so they said they wouldn't bother to move it. We actually sold it on eBay and put on the listings that it was a famous sofa."

Mingling with the stars became a regular experience especially as the couple stayed in the house while the filming was occurring, "Joanna Page was really, really lovely and gentle - she's tiny in real life. And Ruth Jones was just very well spoken, you can tell she's a very bright lady." Lisa told WalesOnline.

"James Corden wasn't really in any scenes but he directed most of it. There was one scene and I was upstairs and there was a bottle opener in a drawer in the living room. Every time someone walked past the drawer it started making a sound because it was a novelty one.

"I went downstairs [to remove it] and as I'm a Girl Guide leader and the drawer was full of craft stuff. [James Corden] looked at me and said 'I've got a drawer of s*** but this takes the biscuit!'"

Lisa and Michael no longer live in Uncle Bryn's house but any fans of the show might well consider jumping at the chance to pick up the keys and move in; either as an owner or a renter. The house has a lounge/diner at the front that can boast a bay window, plus a kitchen and bathroom at the back with a door leading out to the rear courtyard garden. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms.

Now empty of furniture and accessories it's hard to recall Uncle Bryn's interior design taste, but if you're the new owner you can either recreate the legendary home or put your own personal stamp on the place, with surely a DVD boxset of Gavin & Stacey hiding in a cupboard somewhere.

The house on Trinity Street, Barry is for sale for £212,000 or for rent for £995 per calendar month with Chris Davies Estate Agents, call them on 01446 700007 to find out more.
