Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has picked out Illan Meslier’s late save against Everton as his best of the week from the latest round of Premier League matches.
Meslier was forced to show off the best of his reflexes to deny Salomon Rondon his first Toffees goal following his summer move to Goodison Park.
Rondon caught a superb through ball from Dele Alli perfectly on the volley which Meslier was sharply able to turn over the bar.
That save was one of just a handful of positive moments from Leeds’ trip to Merseyside, as they were heavily defeated 3-0 by Everton, who had won just once in 15 Premier League matches prior to Saturday.
In what is a weekly feature on the ‘Seaman Says’ Podcast, the former England number one singled out Meslier’s remarkable stop as the best due to the speed he was able to move it hands to the ball.
He said: “It’s time for the save of the week and I had everything all prepared from the weekend and I just thought Meslier’s save against Everton was just unbelievable. It was a fast hand, I know they got beat 3-0, but it was a really quick hand to flick it over the bar.”
The 21-year-old has been one of Leeds’ most consistent performers so far this season, in what has otherwise been a disappointing campaign.
With a total of 80 saves, Meslier has made the second most number of saves in the Premier League this term, with only Manchester United’s David de Gea ahead of him.
