A United Nations official has issued a warning regarding the potential humanitarian crisis in Gaza if the UN agency for Palestinian refugees is banned from Israeli territory. The official, Philippe Lazzarini, who serves as the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, expressed concerns about legislation being considered in the Israeli parliament that could lead to severe consequences.
Lazzarini addressed the UN Security Council, stating that if the proposed bills are adopted, the humanitarian response in Gaza, which heavily relies on UNRWA's infrastructure, could face disintegration. He highlighted that senior Israeli officials have indicated a goal of destroying UNRWA, further exacerbating the situation.
