The UN has asked artificial intelligence companies to rein in development of the technology, as both China and the US played down the growing concerns of industry leaders.
In a letter sent to countries and AI developers, UN human rights chief Volker Türk cautioned that the world was “on the cusp of irreversible change, affecting not just us but generations of humanity to come”.
