Ulster coach Dan McFarland insists there's much more to come from "explosive" Kieran Treadwell

Ulster head coach Dan McFarland believes Kieran Treadwell's career can continue on an upward curve after signing a new deal with the province.

The second rower, who has been named in the replacements for the Ireland side to face South Africa on Saturday, has agreed a contract that will keep him at the Kingspan for another three seasons.

Treadwell has already reached 100 caps for Ulster and was the only player in Andy Farrell’s summer touring squad to feature in all five games on New Zealand soil when Ireland secured their first series win against the All Blacks away from home.

This followed Treadwell announcing his return to the green jersey, after four years, with his first international try against Italy in last year’s Six Nations.

Now into his seventh season with Ulster, on continuing his journey with the club, the 26-year-old said: “I’m really excited to have signed on again with Ulster. This group is full of talent, and we all have the same goal in mind. I can’t wait to see how far we can go as a squad.”

Meanwhile, head coach McFarland, added: “Kieran has worked very hard over the last few years to develop as a player. His explosive qualities have always been apparent, but he has added a significant set piece element to his game that has been recognised in his deserved selections for the Ireland team.

“I look forward to him continuing to improve in the years ahead, and for that to pay dividends when it comes to what we’re aiming for as a squad.”
