Vladyslava shared their harrowing experiences, stating, 'There were many bad instances in Kharkiv as there is constant shelling there. Almost every day there is some explosion, both during the day and during the night.' The twins have had to navigate the fear and uncertainty of living in a war-torn region while pursuing their Olympic dreams.
Having previously won bronze at the Tokyo Games in 2020, the Aleksiiva twins are no strangers to the pressures of elite competition. Maryna recounted a particularly alarming incident, saying, 'One day, we were on our way to training and there was an explosion near us. You are not able to think at that moment where to go, what to do.' Despite the dangers they face on a daily basis, the twins remain focused on their goal of competing at the highest level.
