Ukrainian City Of Kharkiv Mourns After Deadly Russian Bombing

Russian missile strike on a hotel in Kharkiv

A day of mourning has been declared in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv following a devastating Russian bomb attack that claimed the lives of at least six civilians, including a child in a playground. The attack, which occurred on Friday, resulted in the injury of 97 people, including 24 children, making it one of the most impactful Russian assaults on the region this summer.

The Russian forces conducted a 'massive bombardment' using Su-34 fighter jets that launched five guided aerial bombs from the border Belgorod region. These 500-kilogram bombs were difficult to intercept and targeted residential infrastructure, causing extensive damage to numerous buildings and facilities in Kharkiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the cowardly Russian strikes and called for increased military support from Western allies to counter such attacks effectively. Zelensky emphasized the importance of targeting the airplanes carrying these bombs as a preventive measure against future assaults.

Meanwhile, Russian attacks in Ukraine's Kursk region have continued, with Kyiv's forces making advancements in their incursion into the border region. The ongoing conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides, with at least three people killed and 16 injured in Ukrainian territory over the past 24 hours.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched various attacks overnight, including a ballistic missile and anti-aircraft guided missiles from different regions. The escalating violence underscores the urgent need for international intervention to address the escalating crisis and prevent further loss of life.
