A recent report has shed light on an individual, Ryan Wesley Routh, who allegedly attempted to contact Ukraine's foreign legion multiple times but was never part of the military unit. According to Oleksandr Shaguri, an officer of the Foreigners Coordination Department of the Land Forces Command, Routh's messages were described as 'delusional ideas'.
Shaguri confirmed that Routh offered large numbers of recruits from different countries, but the legion deemed his offers unrealistic and chose not to engage with him. It was clarified that Routh was never associated with the Legion and did not collaborate with them in any capacity.
Routh's public expressions of support for Ukraine, including statements about being willing to die in the fight and advocating for drastic measures such as 'burning the Kremlin to the ground,' were noted in various online posts in 2022. Additionally, evidence suggests that Routh visited Ukraine in the same year, as indicated by geolocated videos and photos, along with media interviews conducted during his time there.
Furthermore, Routh utilized his Facebook account in 2023 to encourage foreigners to participate in the conflict, particularly targeting Afghan conscripts. He positioned himself as an unofficial intermediary for the Ukrainian government, seeking to enlist individuals for the war effort.
