Ukraine crisis: Kerala govt to provide students with air tickets to home

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government will provide air tickets to Kerala for the Malayali students who are reaching the country from Ukraine on the evacuation planes arranged by the central government, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

“The resident commissioner and NORKA officials have been asked to make arrangements to send them home in the immediately available flights,’’ he said.

Venu Rajamony, the officer on special duty for the state government in New Delhi, said arrangements have been made to provide accommodation for the students arriving in New Delhi and Mumbai airports.

“The flight with the first batch of 219 Indian nationals has taken off from Bucharest and it is expected to reach Mumbai by 10pm today. There are 19 Malayalis in the flight,’’ he said.

He said as per the latest advisory released by the Indian embassy in Ukraine, all people have been advised to coordinate with officials before moving to the border posts. It has requested people to continue to remain in their current places of residence until further instructions. There are 2,320 students stranded in Ukraine, the CM had said.
