Brits are set for heavy showers, thunderstorms and even hail for parts of the UK with flooding a possibility but in the sun it could reach 23C.
The weather has been unsettled this week with marked differences around the country and on Tuesday there was persistent heavy rain in western Scotland compared to plenty of sun in central England with temperatures in the low 20Cs.
The UK is in the grips of a low pressure due to a “ridge in the jetstream” which at the same time is bringing a heatwave to central Europe with temperatures in the mid-40Cs in Italy.
The weather system is slowing down the atmosphere from progressing and so with little movement the low pressure is set to remain over the UK for the rest of the week.
“We get to endure an area of low pressure that has been with us today and will be with us for the rest of the week bringing rain or showers in the forecast everyday,” said BBC weather’s Chris Fawkes.
The weather is expected to become more settled over the weekend and as temperatures rise they could hit the high 20Cs or even 30C by Thursday next week according to maps from WXCharts.
“We start off on Wednesday morning with a band of rain across east Scotland, eastern areas of England, clearing quite quickly and then essentially when that has gone it is a day of sunshine and showers," said Mr Fawkes.
"Heavy showers and thunderstorms for Scotland and some slow moving storms lining up along south west England, so there will be a few areas here that will see shower, after shower, after shower.
"That said probably not that many showers for East Anglia and the south east of England and that is where we will see the highest temperatures with lots of sunshine.”
There is a similar scenario for the end of the working week.
Mr Fawkes continued: “Thursday is another day of sunshine and showers. What you will notice over the next few days is that the winds will become really quite light and so where those showers form and they are going to be quite widespread, they are going to be slow moving in nature, some of them turning heavy, with some hail and thunder, we might even get some flash flooding from the heaviest of the downpours as well.
"Temperatures similar to what we have seen over recent days, high teens across western areas, low 20Cs in the warmest spots further east."
UK forecast for the next 5 days
