Brits are set for a scorching Platinum Jubilee with 23C highs and plenty of sunshine but there is always a threat of showers.
The heavier rain from the start of the week is expected to move away by Thursday and temperatures will also be rising as each day goes by, but forecasters are still saying the outlook is unpredictable.
The UK will enjoy a four-day Bank Holiday weekend beginning on Thursday June 2 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.
Events are being planned up and down the country for the historic occasion.
BBC weather forecaster Nick Miller said: “It will be drier than it is at the moment but there is still, if you have outdoor plans and street parties, the potential for showers, initially Thursday, Friday in northern areas, then into the weekend more towards southern parts of the UK.”
In the run up to Bank Holiday there is plenty of rain and cool temperatures.
"A lot of cloud, plenty of showers and it really is quite cool for the time of the year with a low pressure sitting right across the UK," said Mr Miller.
"Not the strongest area of low pressure we have ever had and actually the winds are fairly light, so that does mean that the rain sticks around when we get them. And there will be many places avoiding a shower or two as we go on through Tuesday.
"The heaviest ones will be down the east of Scotland and the eastern side of England, some thundery with hail. This spell of rain pushing in through Northern Ireland. Feeling a touch warmer in Wales and southern England especially by the end of day when you get more in the way of sunshine coming through."
It is a similar outlook for Wednesday with showers but it will start to get warmer before the outlook improves still further for Thursday.
Mr Miller continued: “For may places it is looking drier, fewer showers around, more in the way of sunny spells but you can’t rule out the possibility from that disturbance although this particular outlook for Thursday doesn’t look like it but there is a chance of showers and outbreaks of rain pushing in from the north west as the day goes on."
He pointed out that the "sunshine or showers question mark” continues on Friday and into the weekend but in the sunshine the temperatures will be in the low 20Cs and could peak at 23C.

Tonight:
A few showers in northeast, whilst rain across Northern Ireland moves east into northwest England, Wales and the northwest Midlands. Chilly in the south with a few fog patches.
Wednesday:
Rain across central areas moving east and turning showery through the morning. Some heavy showers across northern and eastern England. Drier in west and north with sunny spells.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Most areas mainly dry on Thursday and Friday, but showers likely in the north and west. Sunny spells Saturday, but risk of some heavy showers across central southern areas.
