Marks & Spencer proves it still has spark as the nation’s favourite supermarket.
The store giant narrowly beat discounter Aldi to the top spot, with Waitrose in third place.
But Aldi scored five out of five stars for value for money compared with four for M&S.
Along with Waitrose, M&S was the only chain to secure five stars for store appearance and its own label products.
Iceland and Lidl came fourth in a customer poll by consumer watchdog Which?.
The Big Four – Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons – were in the lower half, while the Co-op came last.
One shopper said of M&S: “Just love it. Great quality.”
The Co-op was said to be “expensive, crowded, with long queues”. Frozen food chain Iceland was crowned best online grocer, seeing off Ocado and Tesco.
Harry Rose, Which? magazine editor, said: “With the cost of living continuing to rise, many people are looking for quality at the cheapest price.”
Which? named Ocado and Aldi Recommended Providers.
