UK prisons are “quite tight” at 99% capacity, a justice minister has told Parliament.
Speaking to peers in Westminster, Lord Bellamy KC said the Government is concerned about the increasing prison population and how it is nearing its upper limit.
He said: “We are currently experiencing downstream pressures in the criminal justice system.
