UK heatwave: Rare red weather warning for extreme heat extended as Britain bakes

  • The red weather warning for extreme heat has been extended until 9pm on Friday for parts of London, south east England and the east of England.
  • The Met Office said “the exceptional spell of hot and humid weather will continue across this region, with impacts to the general population highly likely.”
  • It added: “The focus of the highest temperatures on Friday is likely to shift towards east and southeastern England.”
  • Temperatures in these regions could surpass 36C, potentially reaching 38C in some areas.
  • Significant disruption to daily life is anticipated again on Friday, according to the weather agency.
