UK Eurovision hopefull Mae Muller has thanked fans for their support after her entry track I Wrote A Song shot to the top of the iTunes chart just hours after it was released.

The London-born singer, 25, was announced on Thursday as the act that will representing the UK in this year’s singing competition with the live final taking place in Liverpool on May 13.

Shortly after, her entry track I Wrote A Song and accompanying video were released and raced up the iTunes chart.

Taking to social media, an ecstatic Muller tweeted: “Oh my goodness… I’m in shock! #1 on itunes!!! I’m blown away by your support, thank you thank you thank you, so excited and grateful for this experience, a dream come true LETS DO THIS EUROVISION 2023 BABYYY!!!!!”

Last year saw the UK finish in second place with Sam Ryder’s Space Man pipped to the post by Ukraine’s entry Stefania performed by Kalush.

Due to the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine with Russia, the UK agreed to step in to host the annual competition.

Former shop worker Muller - who has previously toured with Little Mix and appeared in the music video for Mika’s Grace Kelly when she was just nine year’s old - is hoping to go one better and win this year.

Speaking to Scott Mills for a special BBC interview on Thursday night, she said: “I just love Sam. He did the best job and I think he really put us in a whole new light.”

She added: “I definitely want to carry it on.”
