Uganda withdraws from Prince Harry’s Invictus Games – here’s why

  • Uganda has officially withdrawn from the Duke of Sussex’s Invictus Games , with its military chief stating the nation will not participate in anything that lacks the explicit approval of King Charles III.
  • The decision made by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba came shortly after the Royal Household issued guidelines clarifying that Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex are considered private citizens.
  • General Kainerugaba confirmed the withdrawal was designed to quash support within the Ugandan military for what he described as 'that Harry-Meghan nonsense', reaffirming his direct support for the British monarch.
  • The sudden exit comes just two months after Uganda was announced as only the second African nation to join the Invictus Games movement, having already received foundation funding for new adaptive sports equipment.
  • The Invictus Games Foundation is investigating the matter as preparations continue for next year's tournament in Birmingham, which Prince Harry reportedly hopes the King will attend.
