Uganda has entered the final phase of its Ebola response after the Ministry of Health discharged the country's last confirmed patient on July 16, 2026, at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, beginning the mandatory 42-day countdown required before the outbreak can be officially declared over.
The discharge ceremony was presided over by Uganda's Minister of Health, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who presented the survivor, a Congolese national who had contracted Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and sought treatment in Uganda, with an official Ebola discharge certificate confirming he no longer poses a risk of transmission. Uganda's Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization's Africa Regional Office confirmed the milestone the same day.
