UFC star Paddy Pimblett defends Liverpool's plan to parade trophies

Paddy Pimblett has leapt to the defence of Liverpool who have come into criticism for holding their trophy parade on the same day as the anniversary of the Heysel disaster.

Jurgen Klopp's side yesterday missed out on lifting the Premier League title after Manchester City's epic final-day comeback victory against Aston Villa. However they can still complete a historic treble by winning the Champions League final against Real Madrid on Saturday.

The Reds announced their parade for the day after the showpiece in Paris, which also marks the day Juventus will hold a memorial for the victims of the 1985 Heysel disaster. Pimblett has claimed UEFA are responsible for the clash of dates when responding to a fan, tweeting: "So it’s our fault now the final has fell on May 28th?

"Well it got booked by UEFA on that date the haters make me laugh you know, any excuse to have a go at Liverpool! It’s standard that you do a parade day after last game of the season we done the same in 2005 & 2019, you okay chapo?"

Pimblett was supported by a Liverpool fan before ending his current debate. However the 27-year-old continued to be held accountable on social media, responding to another comment: "No you were giving us s*** for not signing the national anthem. Where has anyone disrespected Heysel? The best thing is the club are doing a memorial for them tomorrow morning that’s why the parade starts late you absolute dumb c***."

Thirty nine fans were killed before the start of the 1985 European Cup final after Juventus fans were trapped against a collapsing wall in Belgium. Fourteen Liverpool supporters were later convicted.

English clubs were subsequently banned from European competitions by UEFA until the 1990-91 season. Pimblett has already leapt to defend the club after fans were criticised by several leading MP's after booing Prince William and the national anthem before their FA Cup Final victory over Chelsea.

The UFC star has continued to raise his profile in the world of combat sports having won his second fight in the UFC over Kazula Vargas in London earlier this year. However after a junk food binge, the star has risen to 200lbs in weight and has now returned to training camp to shed weight ahead of a potential return.
