UFC star Michael Chandler delivers adorable speech to sons after brutal fight

Michael Chandler gave his two sons a hilarious speech about the damage he sustained in his UFC 281 loss to Dustin Poirier.

Former title challenger Chandler was tapped out by Poirier in the third round of their back-and-forth lightweight clash at Madison Square Garden in New York. Chandler enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and had 'The Diamond' backed up against the fence after landing a big combination that set up a takedown.

Poirier turned the tide in the second round as he dropped Chandler with a big right hand and although 'Iron Mike' was able to recover, he was ultimately submitted by a rear-naked choke in the third round. Chandler posted a Instagram video in which he explained the nature of his injuries to his two sons whilst wearing an ice mask to reduce the swelling of his face.

"Well sons it appears that your father has engaged in another spectacular hand-to-hand combat at UFC 281 in New York City. Now, a couple of things I'd like to point out. My right foot is extremely swollen, now part of that is the altitude coming on the plane coming back," Chandler said.

"Secondly, my face has stitches, two black eyes and a lot of swelling. I would like to say, I would not engage in this profession that your father has chosen although it does provide a wonderful life for you. End of story, god bless and see you at the top."

Chandler was accused of using an illegal move known as 'fish-hooking' against Poirier to try and secure a submission, something the American denied doing intentionally. "I will admit, his mouth was open and my hand went inside of there and was on his mouthpiece. He bit down, I was trying to pull it out. It wasn't as though I was trying to pull it out and he was biting it and I couldn't get it out. It was more just the angle," he said.

Poirier and Chandler engaged in a tense build-up to their fight and had to be separated after almost coming to blows whilst they were cageside for UFC 276 in July. The pair shook hands after the fight but Chandler revealed that he wasn't happy with something Poirier said to him after the fight, stating he would have liked 'The Diamond' to be more gracious in victory.

"I'm not going to say what was said. It's between him and I. Win lose or draw, I said I would shake his hand but something was said and I didn't really like it. We're still friends, enemies or whatever we are. He wasn't as graceful in victory as I would have been, or as I would have liked," Chandler added.
