UFC star Darren Till feels 'depressed like Tyson Fury' after latest fight pull-out

Darren Till has admitted that he feels he is heading to a low similar to Tyson Fury 's after being forced out of UFC London.

The Liverpool native was due to face Jack Hermansson in the co-headline bout at The O2 arena in London, but had to pull out of the massive comeback fight due to injury. He's only fought twice since 2019, losing to Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson, with both contests coming after lengthy lay-offs.

And Till has admitted that his latest cancellation has left him depressed, likening his situation to Fury's when he ballooned in weight due to mental health issues in 2017. The heavyweight champion was stripped of his titles and quit boxing for three years amid a difficult mental health battle, but came back to prominence in 2018 and eventually reclaimed gold in 2020.

"It’s just so frustrating at this point in my career," Till explained during an appearance on Blockasset’s BLOCKPARTY podcast . "I feel like I’m in a Tyson Fury moment.

"Remember when he was going through that depressed stage? And I feel like that’s where I’m at now. Obviously I’m not drinking and taking drugs – that’s not my way. But I still feel like that.

"Honestly, I’m not about that new age of, ‘Oh, I’m depressed,’ mental health and all that bulls***. I come from a different era. But it just makes you feel so f***ing low, s*** like this.

"I’m not a crying, man, or anything, but it f***ing frustrates me so much. I’m so p***ed off with it. It doesn’t bother me, but it does. Anyone who says the trolls don’t bother you is a liar.

"Don’t get me wrong – I f***ing give it back to the c***s. But some little comments get to you, like, ‘Oh, retire now.’ What do you mean retire? What the f*** are you harping on about? I haven’t even dented my prime yet. I know where I’m at, but you just have to take that s*** on the chin."

Till's bout with Hermansson has instead been given to the American Chris Curtis, so the Liverpudlian will have to watch from the sidelines, just as he did at the UFC's March date in the same venue. He was once an undefeated world title contender, but after being quickly submitted by Tyron Woodley, Till has lost three of his last four fights, competing on average once a year.

His last outing was against Derek Brunson, who dominated their meeting before submitting him in the third round. He is still ranked No.9 in the middleweight division, despite having just one win at the weight, and wants to be back as soon as possible.

“It’s just such a f***ing depressing time for me at the moment," he continued. "Because listen, trolls don’t bother me. But it’s just these f***ing comments and all these, even fighters, like, ‘oh, he pulled out.’

"I’m like, ‘Mate, come to the gym and I’ll f***ing take you out.’ It’s just so frustrating for me right now. It really is. I’m at a f***ing low point."
