SAN DIEGO – Only Anderson Silva has more finishes in UFC middleweight fights than Gerald Meerschaert after UFC on ESPN 41.
Meerschaert (34-15 MMA, 10-7 UFC) scored his 10th stoppage win in the octagon on Saturday when he submitted Bruno Silva (22-8 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in the third round of their main card bout at Pechanga Arena.
After a tit-for-tat first two frames, Meerschaert looked to end things in the final round. He did just that, hurting Silva with his hands before locking in a guillotine choke to force the tap from his Brazilian foe.

Meerschaert’s nine submission wins at 185 pounds are far and away the record from the next people on the list, multiple of whom have five. Former champ “The Spider” has 11 finishes overall in the division, which is just one better than Meerschaert.
Gerald Meerschaert adds to his record for most submission wins in UFC middleweight history with 9.

After the win, Meerschaert said he has to be cautious in the fight, but knew he could get the job done.
“It feels great,” Meerschaert said in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier. “Bruno’s a tough guy. I had to fight the perfect fight. When I saw my opening, I took it.”
