UFC legend Nate Diaz flattens mascot with single punch before grabbing belt

Nate Diaz laid out the San Francisco 49ers mascot last night before grabbing his belt and tossing it over his shoulder.

Diaz, 37, fought out of his UFC contract last month by submitting fellow veteran Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279. He was originally scheduled to face Khamzat Chimaev at the event, but unbeaten star missed weight by 7.5lb and Diaz refused to accept a catchweight fight. Chimaev went on to submit Kevin Holland at the event, whilst Diaz picked up his first win in over three years by tapping out Ferguson in the fourth round.

Now enjoying his time away from the cage, Diaz visited the Levi's Stadium to watch the 49ers dominant win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. The UFC legend crossed paths with the team's mascot, Sourdough Sam, whilst backstage at the event and delivered a floored him with one punch. Whilst the mascot was on the floor, Diaz took the belt from him and put it over his shoulder before laughing off the exchange.

Although Diaz is not yet free to entertain all fight opportunities, he has been linked to boxing and WWE moves after seeing out his UFC contract. A lucrative fight against YouTube star Jake Paul has been on the table for Diaz since last year and he recently confirmed his plans to fight 'The Problem Child'.

"Jake is for sure one of the options, he's doing big stuff, he's doing really big things and he's got a big fight ahead of him and if he wins that I think people should surely be really impressed by it." he told ID Boxing. "If Anderson [Silva] does his thing to him that's impressive also so we've got a fight on our hands and I'm looking forward to it."

Fans speculated Diaz was set for a WWE move after being pictured alongside the organisation's Chief Content Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque and his wife Stephanie McMahon. If Diaz was to make a switch to professional wrestling, he would follow former UFC fighters Ronda Rousey and Matt Riddle in doing so. Former two-weight UFC champion Henry Cejudo claimed Diaz is hoping "to dabble into WWE" after seeing out his UFC deal.

"He's looking to dabble into WWE to make money," Cejudo told Helen Yee. "We've got to use the brand that the UFC has given you and all these other platforms and continue to make money as an entrepreneur. I think he's an easy sell too. Let him be him, you know and just know that it's not real."
