UFC Fight Night 222 play-by-play and live results

LAS VEGAS – UFC Fight Night 222 takes place Saturday, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results.

UFC Fight Night 222 takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, Sergei Pavlovich (17-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) takes on Curtis Blaydes (17-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) at heavyweight. In the co-feature, Bruno Silva (13-5-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) meets Brad Tavares (19-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) at middleweight.

Danaa Batgerel vs. Brady Hiestand

Round 1 – Batgerel takes the center of the cage and looks to walk down Hiestand. Hiestand has thrown several times the left high kick, and he’s come close to connecting. Hiestand presses Batgerel against the cage and looks for a takedown. He’s unable to get it and the fight returns to striking. Hiestand tries for another takedown and comes up short. Batgerel makes him pay with a few shots. Batgerel preses him and is landing hard. Oh! And Batgerel gets dropped. He quickly gets back up and they brawl it out till the end.

MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Hiestand.

Round 2 – Batgerel immediately drops Hiestand here at the start of Round 2! Hiestand goes for a takedown and gets it. Batgerel with big elbows from bottom. Good control here by Hiestand. Hiestand takes the back. Hiestand tries a Suloev Stretch, but fails. He still has the back control. Hiestand attempts the rear-naked choke several times, but unable to get it. Two minutes left. Hiestand loses the position and ends on bottom. Good elbows from top by Batgerel. They stand up with 40 seconds left. Hiestand is bleeding from the right side of his eyebrow. Good jab by Batgerel. The bell rings.

MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Batgerel.

Round 3 – Good body kick by Hiestand. Both guys have slowed down significantly. Head kick connects for Hiestand, but not much power behind it. Big right hand by Hiestand. Good jab by Batgerel. Two minutes left. Hard left hand by Hiestand. Hiestand shoots for the takedown gets it! Hiestand landing ground and pound. Not the biggest shots, but they’re non stop! And there it is! Hiestand with the TKO win.

William Gomis vs. Francis Marshall

Round 1 – Good kick to the body by Gomis, but Marshall countered with a big  right hand that connected clean. Marshall is pressing Gomis now. He closes the distance, briefly controls him against the cage, before they go back to striking. Marshall pressing Gomis. Good jabs by Marshall. Gomis partly connected with a head kick and now Marshall’s right bone cheek is swollen. Marshall closes the distance again and controls Gomis against the cage until the final bell.

Round 2 – Again, Marshall constantly pressuring Gomis here. He’s also outworking him and just being the busier fighter. Gomis looks to clinch, but ends up getting pressed against the cage. They break away. Three minutes left. Low paced fight here. Neither connecting clean. Good right hand by Marshall. Low kick lands by Gomis and the fight is paused. The fight resumes. Hard leg kick by Gomis.

Round 3 – Neither man has found his range here. A lot of swinging on air by both. Marshall constantly pressing Gomis here. Good leg kick by Gomis. Three minutes left. Marshall shoots for the takedown and gets it. Gomis gets on his hands and knees, but Marshall has a lock around his body and looking to drag him to the ground. Marshall gets the takedown and again, he takes the back! Marshall is going for the rear-naked choke. It looks tight! Gomis gets out. Marshall on top now trying for an arm triangle. Good ground-and-pound by Marshall. The bell rings.

Junior Tafa vs. Mohammed Usman

Round 1 – Both fighters very tentative here. A minute in and Usman shoots for a takedown. He doesn’t get it, but he’s now pressing Tafa against the cage. Tafa unable to break free. Good control here by Usman, but no damage. Two minutes left. Usman is still pressing Tafa against the cage. Tafa explodes, almost lands a knee to the head, and Usman goes back to pressing. A couple of punches to the body land for Usman. Another one.Tafa breaks free with 40 seconds left. Tafa connects! He stuns Usman. Again! Usman shoots for a takedown and goes to pressing Tafa against the cage. They break free again and brawl it out to the bell.

Round 2 – Usman shoots early and comes up short. He’s very tired. Good connections by Tafa! Usman closes the distance and presses Tafa against the cage. Usman gets the takedown for the first time in the fight. He’s working from half guard. Good shots from Usman. Not much damage here. Just control from Usman. Two minutes left. Usman keeps control for the rest of the round.

Round 3 – Tafa swings big early, but misses. As expected, Usman shoots for the takedown. He presses Tafa against the cage and then gets him to the ground . Usman again working from half guard. Not much damage from Usman, but Tafa is doing very little to improve position and get up. He’s exhausted. Usman keeping control here, minutes go by. Tafa explodes to his feet in the final seconds. He tries to go for the knockout, but unable to. The final bell rings.

Round 1 – We’re two minutes in and nether fighter has connected. Very tentative. Dumont with a hard leg kick. Leg kick by Rosa. They clinch and Dumont ends up pressing Rosa against the cage. One minute left. Dumont still controlling Rosa. The referee separates them. Both exchange. It seems that Dumont is slightly getting the better of the shots. Good jab by Dumont. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Ok, now they’re letting loose. Both fighters exchange here in some fun combinations. Nice one, two from Dumont. Dumont closes the distance and pins Rosa against the cage. Rosa is bleeding from her right eye. Good control by Dumont, but very little damage. They break free with a bout two minutes left. Rosa closes the distance, and now it’s she who presses against the cage. Rosa controls the action until the bell. Tough round to score.

Round 3 – Hard leg kick by Dumont here. Dumont attacks with a flurry, closes the distance and goes back to pressing Rosa against the cage. Three minutes left. Dumont briefly gets a takedown, but Rosa is back up. They’re in striking range. Oh! Rosa sits down Dumont with a right hand. Dumont  back up, but Rosa presses her against the cage. Rosa reversed. Rosa breaks away and back to striking. Hard leg kick by Rosa. Rosa pressing Dumont here. Good elbow by Rosa. The bell rings.

Round 1 – Big left hand by Jackson. Jackson clearly with a power and striking advantage. Yahya shoots for a takedown and then pulls guard. He’s looking to tie up Jackson. No shots from Jackson. He’s just focused on not getting submitted. Jackson gets back up and they’re back striking. Good right hand by Yahya. Oh! Huge left by Jackson drops Yahya. Jackson follows up with ground-and-pound. It’s over. Jackson stops Yahya.

Round 1 – Oh! They’re getting after it immediately. And Semelsberger drops Wells! Wells in survival mode, looking to wrestle. Semelsberger so far doing a great job at defending. Semelsberger reverses the position and now presses Wells against the cage. Wells reverses the position and takes down Semelsberger by the cage. Three minutes left. Wells looks fully recovered from the early shots. Good ground-and-pound by Wells. More shots by Wells. Two minutes left. Semelsberger scrambles back to his feet, but is now getting pressed against the cage. One minute left. Wells controlling Semelsberger. Good hooks by Wells followed by a takedown. Wells keeping busy on top. The bell rings.

Round 2 – Same start! Wow! Semelsberger drops Wells with a right hand and now takes the top position. Wells back up and in striking range. Four minutes left. These two are throwing heat! Wells fails in a takedown attempt. Big right connects for Semelsberger. Wells shoots and gets the takedown. Three minutes left. Wells with good control here.  Some ground-and-pound lands for Wells. More shots by Wells. One minute left. More shots by Wells. The bell rings. Crazy close round.

Round 2 – Flying knee from Wells almost lands. Both swing with crazy power, but neither connects. Wells closes the distance and gets the takedown with a flashy slam. Four minutes left. Semelsberger almost gets back up, but gets takedown down again by Wells. Good control here by Wells. Semelsberger scrambles like crazy, but Wells ends on top. Semelsberger gets up, but Wells presses him against the cage. Semelsberger attempts a kimura. Wells gets out. Semelsberger tries a triangle, but Wells gets out again. Wells slams Semelsberger. The bell rings.

Round 1 – Lucindo cracks Walker early with a right hand. Good leg kicks by Walker. Oh, nasty flurry by Lucindo. Lucindo looking good. Good combo by Lucindo. Walker’s face is busted up already. Nasty right hand by Lucindo. Three minutes left. Lucindo is walking down Walker here. A clear speed and power advantage in favor of Lucindo here. Walker’s defense got a bit better as the round went on, but still it was all Lucindo here.

Round 2 – Good body kick and then good leg kick by Walker. Lucindo with constant pressure here. She’s landing a bit less compared to Round 1, but she’s still ahead. Good combo by Lucindo. Lucindo misses a spinning back first and Walker closes the distance and presses Lucindo against the cage. Two minutes left. Good knees by Walker. Lucindo escapes and they’re back to striking. Nasty right hand by Lucindo. Another one. Again. Solid chin on Walker. Lucindo ties up, and trips Walker. She gets full mount. Nice elbow by Lucindo. Lucindo finishes on top.

Round 3 – Solid showing by Lucindo so far. A flying knee by Lucindo connects to the body. And a one, two for the Brazilian. Nasty combo by Lucindo. She’s really letting her hands go in this final round. Lucindo picking apart walker here. Body kick connects for Lucindo. More shots by Lucindo. Walker’s left eye is pretty battered. Lucindo dominates the action on the feet all the way to the bell.

Gordon fails in a takedown attempt. A low blow lands for Gordon and the fight is paused. Green takes just a few seconds off and the fight resumes. One, two connects for Green. One minute left. Big connection for Gordon. Green with a right hand. Gordon falls to the canvas. Green follows up with some punches and the fight is over! It seems there was a clash of heads. The commission reviews the replay. Correct, clash of heads led to the finish. It’s a no contest.

Result: Bobby Green vs. Jared Gordon ends in a no contest (accidental clash of heads) – Round 1, 4;35.

Another right hand connects for Silva. Again! Tavares drops to the canvas. It’s over!

Keg kick by Blaydes. And Pavlovich drops Blaydes! Blaydes gets immediately back up. He seem ok. Three minutes left. Another leg kick by Blaydes. A jab wobbles Blaydes. Blaydes fails with a takedown. Jab wobbles Blaydes again. Pavlovich walks him down. Pavlovich with a big left hand and drops Blaydes. A few follow-up shots on the ground and it’s over!
