UFC Fight Night 209 takes place at Accor Arena in Paris. The card streams on ESPN+.
In the main event, former interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (10-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) takes on Tai Tuivasa (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC). In the co-feature, recent middleweight title challenger Marvin Vettori (18-4-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) meets former champ Robert Whittaker (23-6 MMA, 14-4 UFC).

Stephanie Egger vs. Ailin Perez
Round 1 – The fight UFC event ever in France is underway. Perez imemediately closes the distance and goes for a takedown. She nearly gets it, but Egger was able to reverse the takeodwn and end up on top. Perez works her way to guard and now Egger looks to control and do damange on top. Three minutes left. Egger moves to side control. Not much gorund-and-pound for Egger, but plenty of control. Perez escapes and gets a single leg takedown. Egger immediately getas back to her feet and now they fight for position long the cage. Two minutes left. Egger gets the fight to the ground and takes back side control. Perez back to her feet and the fight resumes on the stand-up department. Oh and Perez connects with some big shots and backs up Egger against the cage. The bell rings shortly after. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Egger.
Round 2 – Perez comes out firing. She connects with some good shorts, but then gets pressed against the cage by Egger. Egger looks for a takedown, but fails. They continue to fight against the cage, alternating positions. Perez gets the fight to the ground, and she’s now in side control. Three minutes left. Egger gets back to her feet and once again presses Perez against the cage. Not much going on in the clinch. Two minutes left. Egger takes the fight to the ground. And Egger moves to back mount. She looks for a rear-naked choke, but Perez is defending well. And Egger sinks in the choke. Ten seconds left. And there’s the tap! Solid work by Egger.

Cristian Quinonez vs. Khalid Taha
Round 1 – Quinonez being the taller fighter, keeping a good range and distance on Taha. Some good jabs and leg kicks thrown by Quinonez. Taha tries to counter with some power hooks, but the range is giving him issues and he’s unable to connect. Good left hook by Quinonez. And a nasty right hook drops Taha. He’s hurt bad, and the referee immediately jumps in and stops the action. What a debut by the Mexican fighter.

Gabriel Miranda vs. Benoit Saint-Denis
Round 1 – And a hard body kick by Saint-Denis gets things started here. Saint-Denis takes Miranda to the ground, but just for a few seconds. Now Miranda goes for a takedown and fails. What a pace. Both fighters are just on complete offense mode. A spinning back first drops Miranda, as he shot for a takedown. The fight resumes on the feet. Both landing well, but Saint-Denis getting the better of the exchanges. Saint-Denis takes down Miaranda and is now working from top, landing solid shots. Two minutes left. Nice right hand by Miranda. Oh! And Saint-Denis drops Miranda. He’s now on top by the cage landing ground-and-pound. Miranda is tough as hell. Saint-Denis continues to land shots and control the action. The referee stands up the fight. Miranda looks wobbly. And again! Saint-Denis drops Miranda. The bell rings shortly after. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-8, Saint-Denis.
Round 2 – Miranda looks in bad shape. The fight resumes and Saint-Denis is all over Miranda. He connects with a hard combination and sends Miranda crashing down. The fight is over. What a showing by Saint-Denis. Fantastic stuff.

Michal Figlak vs. Fares Ziam
Round 1 – And like the last one, we’re off to a quick start! Figlak presses the action, as Ziam looks to stay in the outside and counter. Huge left hook followed by a leg kick by Ziam. At distance, Ziam is looking really sharp. Figlak closes the distance to engage in the grappling, but it’s Ziam who gets the takedown. They get back up shortly after the takedown. Figlak having a tough time with Ziam’s range. Two minutes left. Figlak closes the distance once again and presses Ziam against the cage. Ziam reverses the position, and it is him controlling the action. Figlak attempts a takedown, but gets reversed by Ziam. In the final seconds, Figlak attempts an armbar, but doesn’t come close. And the bell goes off. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Ziam.
Round 2 – No feeling out process here. Figlak with some good shots to kick off the round. Ziam gets a takedown and gets in Figlak’s guard. Ziam looks to pass. He’s got good control and ground-and-pound. He briefly moves to side control, but Figlak recovers guard. Two minutes left. Figlak finds his way back to the feet and almost immediately engages back in the clinch. Ziam breaks away and connects with a spinning elbow that wobbles Figlak badly. Figlak falls back on the canvas in hopes to recover. Ziam follows him to the ground and takes top position. He now moves to mount, but loses it. The bell rings. Another easy 10-9 round for Ziam in MMA Junkie’s book.
Round 3 – Figlak likely needs a finish here. He begins to put on the pressure on Ziam, trying to mix in striking and clinching. However, Ziam seems to be ahead of him in all areas. Solid leg kick by Ziam. The damage is starting to pile up on Figlak. Figlak attempts a takedown, but comes up short. The pace here has slowed down considerably. Ziam gets a takedown and is in Figlak’s guard. Two minutes left. Credit to Figlak, he’s looking from submissions from guard, but nothing is coming close. Oh! And in a scramble, Figlak takes Ziam’s back. He’s now in mount, landing good shots. And Ziam just basically pushes off Figlak and ends on top. Thirty seconds left. The bell rings and Ziam finishes on top. Dominant showing by Ziam. MMA Junkie scored the round 10-9, Ziam. Overall 30-27, Ziam.

Nasrat Haqparast vs. John Makdessi
Round 1 – Here we go! Immediately we see Haqparast taking the outsise of the cage while Makdessi pressures. A lot of fainting and testing each other’s range here. A minute has gone by with very little action. Boos start coming in from the stands. Two minutes in. Makdessi is starting to attack with leg kicks. We’re halfway through the round. Haqparast has thrown power behind several left hooks, but nothing has connected flush. Good leg kicks by Makdessi. One minute left. Good one, two by Haqparast. He then lands a leg kick. The crowd is not happy here. And the bell signals the end of the round. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Makdessi.
Round 2 – Similar dynamic from the first round are playing out here. Makdessi pressures Haqparast and works the kicks, while Haqparast stays in the outside and looks to counter. It seems both fighters are picking up the pace here a bit more, but not enough to stop the boos from the crowd. Oh and Haqparast drops Makdessi! A nasty right hook drops him in response to Makdessi’s spinning back fist. Makdessi appears fine and immediately gets back up. Haqparast doesn’t rush in to cause further damage. Makdessi’s face had noticeably ware. He keeps pressuring Haqparast, just the first round. The round comes to an end. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9, Haqparast.
Round 3 – It seems tied up, at least in MMA Junkie’s book. Again, Haqparast takes the outside of the octagon and Makdessi pressures. Heavy kick attack by Makdessi. Haqparast fires back with combinations, but nothing seems to connect clean. We’re halfway through the round. And a nice one, two lands for Haqparast. Haqparast is starting to land a bit more. He’s throwing in hooks to the body in his combos. Makdessi is still doing most of the pressuring. Haqparast constantly on his heels. And a perfectly times takedown lands for Haqparast, but it’s only good for a couple of takedowns. Makdessi back up. And another takedown by Haqparast. He gets about 10 seconds of control time before the bell rings. Close round. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9, Haqparast.

Round 1 – Boom! Magomedov rocks Stoltzfus with a front kick to the chin just seconds into the fight. Stoltzfus is wobbled bad. Magomedov follows through and drops Stoltzfus to the canvas. Nasty ground-and-pound. And the fight is over. Wow, that was quick.

Charles Jourdain vs. Nathaniel Wood
Round 1 – A fun featherweight bout opens up the main card. And as expected, they’re trading big shots early. Wood takes down Jourdain. He’s in guard and looking to advance positions. Wood mostly focused on passing guard than landing ground-and-pound. Three minutes left. And Jourdain gets back to his feet, but he’s being pressed against the cage. He breaks free. Oh! And a nice one, two by Jourdain. Good body kick by Wood. A low blow from Wood briefly halts the action, but they’re back fighting. Wood wobbles Jourdain with a right hook. He begins to chase Jourdain, but Jourdain quickly recovers and begins to mount offense. One minute left. Again, Wood stuns Jourdain and begins to pour offense on him. Fun round. The bell goes off! MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Wood.
Round 2 – Very much like the first round, Wood takes down Jourdain early, but Jourdain is able to get back up. So far, the striking exchanges have been pretty even, but Wood seems to do more damage with his shots. And nice left and right hooks to the body by Jourdain. Wood eats them well. Wood takes the fight back to the ground. We’re halfway through the round. Not much action here, so the referee stand up the fighters. There’s about a minute and a half left. Jourdain having more success with his shots here. And a left hook from Wood stuns Jourdain. Jourdain with a nice trip, but Wood is able to get right back up just as the bell goes off. Competitive round. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Wood.
Round 3 – Close fight. It seems Wood is up 2-0, but it could also be 1-1 here. High output from both gentlemen here. Wood hits a good trip from the clinch and gets top position on Jourdain. Jourdain does a good job at scrmabling and gets back to his feet. Wood presses him against the cage. And now Jourdain is free. Three minutes left. And another trip by Wood, but Jourdain gets back to his feet quickly. Both fighters trading shots from the clinch. Two minutes left. Neither fighter landing clean shots. Good combination by Wood. A nice jab and leg by Wood. These two are swinging non-stop in the final seconds. Wood gets a takedown and the bell rings shortly after. Fun fight. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9, Wood. Round 1 – Two crowd favorites here. Errens pressuing Gomis, while Gomis looks to counter. Nice body kick by Gomis. He’s got an unsusal stance for MMA. Spinning-back kick to the body lands for Gomis. It’s clear kicks are his main source of attack. Errens staying cautious. Three minutes left. Gomis rushes in with a combination, they clinch up, and Gomis brings tha fight tto the ground. Two minutes left. Gomis doing a good job at controlling the action despite not having a lot of damage. Errens gets back to his feet, but pressed against the cage. They break off for the final seconds of the round, but neither lands anything clean.

Round 2 – Gomis will full momentum here. Errens looks to pressure and lands shots, but Gomis doing a good job at defending. Nice knee to the head by Errens. Gomis takes it well. Oh, big right hand for Errens. He then connects a head-kick and Gomis closes the distance. Gomis gets the takedown. Three minutes left. Gomis doing a good job at controlling from Errens’s guard, but is not landing much ground-and-pound. Two minutes left. Errens finds his way back to his feet and immediately begins to pressure Gomis. He’s doing much better in this round. One minute left. Gomis attempts a takedown, but gets reversed and ends on bottom. He gets back up an presses Errens against the cage. Gomis with a takedown to finish off the round. Close round.

Round 3 – Errens seems to have the momentum here despite likely being two rounds down. He pressures Gomis and looks to land big shots. Gomis closes the distance and pins Errens against the cage. Gomis appears to have switched to a more grappling based tactics at this point. He’s not as willing to strike as he was in the early portion of the fight. And Gomis scores a takedown. Two minutes left. Gomis a bit more active on top than he was earlier. Big moment here! Errens locks in a triangle choke from guard. It looks tight! Forty seconds left. And Gomis escapes with 10 seconds remaining in the fight. That was close.

Round 1 – Kopylov immediately pressing Di Chirico. He lands a still jab followed by good leg kicks. Di Chirico having a tough time connecting. He swings hard, but misses. Kopylov looking calm, but sharp. We’re halfway through the round. So far, Kopylov winning the striking exchange here even though his output is low. Di Chirico shoots for a takedown and fails. Good body kick by Kopylov. It seems Kopylov has Di Chirico’s timing now. His accuracy is very good. Thirty seconds left. Kopylov goes for a flying knee, unsure how well it connected. The Italian uses that to drive him against the cage and look for a takedown, but the bell rings. Solid work by Kopylov.

Round 2 – Di Chirico needs a big change here. He didn’t land much in the first and Kopylov did plenty. And there’s the urgency from Di Chirico. He’s now moving forward, as opposed to standing back as he did in the first round. There it is. Two straight right hands from Di Chirico snap Kopylov’s back. Three minutes left. The Italian closes the distance and pushes Kopylov against the fence. He’s looking for a takedown, but Kopylov is defending well. Kopylov escapes. Two minutes left. Solid body kick by Kopylov. Nice jab by Kopylov. A straight right, again, connects for Di Chirico. Kopylov bleeding slightly from his nose. The two exchange shots until the final bell. Competitive round.

Round 3 – It seems to be a one-round fight now. Kopylov is the cleaner stirker here, but Di Chirico has the higher work rate. Nasty one, two by Kopylov. And Di Cirico is hurt! Kopylov with a shpart combination that sends Di Chirico to the canvas. What a finish!

Round 1 – And probably the card’s most heated matchup is here. Imavov takes the center of the octagon and Buckley the outside. Good leg kick lands by Buckley. Another one. Imavov throws a big uppercut but misses, Buckley closes the distance and pins Imavov for a few seconds against the cage. The fight resumes on the feet. We’re halfway through the round. Imavov threatens with a big combo and pushes the pace on Buckley. Good jab by Imavov. Thirty seconds left and both fighters are swinging wild. Buckley attempts a takedown. It gets stuffed and Imavov transitions to Buckley’s back. He ends the round on top.

Round 2 – Buckley is having a tough time with Imavov’s range and length. He’s having a tough time landing, while Imavov is finding his target with less difficulty. Big miss by Buckley. Imavov walking down Buckley. And Buckley with a nice right hook. We’re half way through the round. Imavov shoots for a takedown and gets it. He’s now in Khabib’s infamous leg tie against the cage. He advances positions and takes Buckley’s back. Imavov locks in the rear-naked choke. It looks tight. Buckley does a good job at hand fighting and escapes. Imavov relentless with his submission attacks. ANother attempt to get a choke. Imavov with some nice elbows. He splits Buckley open. Imavov controls the action until the final bell.

Round 3 – Buckley comes out swinging hard. Imavov takes a few shots but eats them well. Imavov closes the distance, tries to takedown Buckley, but fails. The fight is back on the feet. Buckley swining wild. This might and up very well or very poorly for him. Good uppercut by Imavov. Imavov is visibly tired. Buckley being the clear aggressor. Half the round is gone. Good right hook by Buckley. He’s walking down Imavov. Nice one, two by Imavov. Huge knee to the face by Buckley. He’s trying to finish this fight, but Imavov is tough as nails. They’re brawling it out! The bell goes off. Great fight.

Round 1 – Here we go! Huge middleweight fight. Whittaker with his vintage jab, hitting Vettori. The Italian fighter looks to pressure, while Whittaker is staying light on the outside. Both fighters being very cautious here, nothing big landing. Vettori tries to close the distance and get a takedown, but fails. Whittaker defends well and resumes the fight on the feet. One minute left. Good straight right by Whittaker. And the first round comes to an end. Competitive stuff.

Round 2 – Vettori having a tough time finding Whittaker. The former champ staying light on his feet and getting out of the way of most shots. Clean straight right lands for Whittaker. Easily the best shot of the fight so far. Three minutes left. And another fight hand by Whittaker. Oh! And a head kicks connects, too! It definitely caught the attention of Vettori. Whittaker is heating up now, he’s connecting more cleanly now. Vettori just can’t find him. Now Whittaker is the one pressing. One minute left. And a vicious oblique kick by Whittaker. A clear round for the former champion.

Round 3 – Whittaker has all the momentum in the world. Let’s see how Vettori responds. And the Italian comes out more urgent. He’s pressing Whittaker. Vettori definitely being more aggressive, but he’s still unable to connect with anything meaningful. Huge head kick wobbles Vettori. What a chin. Now a knee from Whittaker. Vettori is bleeding from his cheek bone. We’re halfway through the round. Big difference in speed here in favor of Whittaker. Whittaker cracks Vettori with a straight right. Vettori seems to be shelling up now, a little more gun shy. Vettori attempts a takedown, but fails again. One minute left. Whittaker is on fire. And a takedown lands for Whittaker! Vettori works his way back up. Whittaker puts it on Vettori all the way to the final bell. Brilliant performance.

Round 1 – Main event time! Let’s see who gets close to the heavyweight title. Both fighters trading big leg kicks early. And as expected, Gane staying on the outside and Tuivasa marching him down. Three minutes left. Not much going on. Both fighters being very tentative. Good leg kick by Gane. One minute left. Nice jab by Gane. Another leg kick. Gane is upping his attack. Tuivasa with some big misses. And the first round is in the books.

Round 2 – Tuivasa showing plenty of patience. He’s not rushing the KO, as maybe some expected. A good bocy kick lands by Gane followed by a couple of quick jabs. Gane clearly the more polished striker here. He’s landing enough to get ahead on points, while staying away from any big shots Tuivasa throws. Although Tuivasa is far from beat up, he’s clearly losing this battle. Great jabs by Gane. Oh my God! Gane gets dropped. Tuivasa sat him down with a big hook. Gane gets back up, but he’s wobbly. Now Gane hurts Tuivasa! A huge body kick connects and folds Tuivasa in pain. Tuivasa is still game and wobbles Gane again. Now, Gane hurts Tuivasa with a series of hooks to the body. This is wild. They keep exchanging until the final bell. Very close round.

Round 3 – We have a FIGHT. Same dynamic in the third. Tuivasa marches forward and Gane stays on the outside. Gane again getting the better of the striking. Nasty body kick hurts Tuivasa. Gane wobbles Tuivasa. He goes in for the kill, but Tuivasa is swinging with power – still dangerous. Gane turns down the attack a notch. Good leg kick by Tuivasa. Man, he’s so tough.
