Legalized MMA finally took place in France in 2020, but the UFC waited two years to finally land there. The octagon made its debut in Paris in September 2022 with UFC Fight Night 209 at Accor Arena. Paris’ own former interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane headlined that event against Tai Tuivasa and thrilled fans with a third-round knockout.
French fighters went 5-0 on the night, with Gane, Nassourdine Imavov, William Gomis, Fares Ziam, and Benoit Saint-Denis all getting their hand raised.
UFC Fight Night 209 also marked the octagon debut of Abus Magomedov, who knocked out Dustin Stoltzfus with a 19-second front kick. After just one UFC win, Magomedov will headline a UFC Fight Night event on July 1 against top middleweight contender Sean Strickland.
