The UFC 301 pay-per-view event is set to take place on May 4, 2024, at Rio Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The promotion aims to have one of its Brazilian champions defending their title in the main event. With light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira scheduled to defend his title against Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, it is likely that flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja will headline UFC 301.

Pantoja claimed the UFC flyweight title in July 2023 by defeating Brandon Moreno via split decision at UFC 290. He successfully defended his title in December 2023 with a unanimous decision victory over Brandon Royval at UFC 296. Despite Royval's recent win over Moreno, Pantoja's two victories over Royval make him an improbable contender for UFC 301.
