UFC 287 play-by-play and live results

MIAMI – UFC 287 takes place Saturday and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results.

UFC 287 takes place at Kaseya Center in Miami. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.

In the main event, middleweight champion Alex Pereira (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) puts his title on the line for the first time against former champ Israel Adesanya (23-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC). Pereira upset Adesanya for the title this past November and also holds two kickboxing wins over him. In the co-feature, Gilbert Burns (21-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC) takes on Miami’s own Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA, 12-9 UFC) in a key welterweight bout.

Jaqueline Amorim vs. Sam Hughes

Round 1 – Hughes immediately looking to pressure Amorim. Amorim comfortable backing up. And Amorim shoots for a takedown and gets it! She transitions to Hughes’ back. Hughes defends well and gets back up, but she’s now being pressed against the cage. Amorim looking for the takedown and gets it. Three minutes left. Amorim gets the back once again. She threatens with a rear-naked choke. It looks tight but, Hughes escapes. Amorim still with back control, but Hughes is on her feet. Another rear-naked choke attempt by Amorim. They fall back to the ground. Hughes escapes. That was a close one. Amorim maintains back control. Hughes gets out in the final seconds.

Round 2 – Hughes comes out with the pressure and gets Amorim to the ground. She lets Amorim back up. Again, Hughes pressuring, looking to land big shots. Amorim shoots for a takedown and fails. She pulls guard and now Hughes is on top. A minute has gone by. Hughes maintaining top control, but very little damage. Three minutes left. They’re back on their feet. Hughes pressures and Amorim keeps shooting but coming up short. Amorim pulls guard on a failed takedown. Hughes with top control but very little damage. Amorim looking for submissions, but Hughes is defending well. Hughes gets to her feet, forcing referee to restart the bout. Amorim shoots for a takedown and presses Hughes against the cage. Hughes reverses the position and gets a takedown in the final seconds.

Round 3 – Hughes comes out pressuring one again. Oh! She connects a few shots that snap back Amorim’s head. Amorim attempts a takedown, but unable to get it. Front kick to the face by Hughes, as Amorim went for a takedown. Amorim pulls guard. Hughes landing big hammer fists from top guard. Hughes with solid control here. Not much damage. Three minutes left. Amorim attempting submissions, but Hughes defensively sound. Good body shots by Hughes. Big shots by Hughes! Hughes let’s Amorim back up. Hughes lighting up an exhausted Amorim who’s desperately looking for a takedown. Hughes relentless with pressure. Hughes unloads on Amorim in the final seconds. The crowd goes wild and the bell rings.

Steve Garcia vs. Shayilan Nuerdanbieke

Round 1 – Both guys fighting for the center of the cage. Welp, there’s your first low blow of the night. Gracia tags Nuerdanbieke. Nuerdanbieke taking his time, clearly in pain. After a few seconds, the fight resumes. Huge right hand by Nuerdanbieke!  Garcia drops to the canvas. Nuerdanbieke all over him. Nuerdanbieke working from top guard. Gracia looks to have recovered, and he’s doing a good job tying up Nuerdanbieke to avoid further damage. Nuerdanbieke passes to half guard. Three minutes left. Garcia back up, but being pressured against the cage. Nuerdanbieke takes the fight back down. Nuerdanbieke controling, but not much damage. Nuerdanbieke is bleeding from his bone cheek. Gracia gets back up with 30 seconds left. Garcia putting the pressure. He wobbles Nuerdanbieke! Nuerdanbieke badly hurt. He ties up Gracia and the bell rings.

Round 2 – Fun fight here! Oh! Garcia with a nasty combo wobbles Nuerdanbieke. Garcia smells blood. Nasty body shot by Garcia! Nuerdanbieke goes down. Ground-and-pound. And it’s over. What a finish by Garcia.

Round 1 – Godinez pressures and Calvillo happy to take the outside. Both exchanging, but nothing landing clean. They trade leg kicks. Solid right hand by Godinez. Godinez is bleeding a bit from her nose. Calvillo connecting with a couple of hooks. Good jab by Calvillo. Calvillo closes the distance, shoots for the takedown, and gets it. One minute left. Calvillo controlling from guard. Godinez gets back up to her feet in the final seconds and connects a hard leg kick before bell rings

Round 2 – Same dynamic here. Calvillo backing up and countering and Godinez with relentless pressure. Calvillo shoots for the takedown and comes up short. Good front kick by Godinez. Both fighters showing damage on their faces. Another front kick by Godinez. Godinez with some hard hooks. Head kick lands for Godinez. Calvillo with a clean one, two. These two are trading shot for shot! Good fight. Gonez closes out with a hatd right hand.

Huge right hand backs Meerschaert. Now Pyfer is in the offense, although Meerschaert ate that well. Pyfer is stalking Meerschaert. And Pyfer drops Meerschaert with a left hook! Meerschaert is down. Pyfer with ground-and-pound. It’s over. Great finish by Pyfer.

Luana Pinheiro vs. Michelle Waterson-Gomez

Round 1 – Waterson jabbing air, testing her distance. Leg kick by Waterson. Pinheiro is doing most of the pressuring, but has yet to land something. Spinning elbow connects for Waterson, but Pinheiro eats it well. Big hook connects for Waterson. Pinheiro with a big left. Leg kick by Pinheiro. leg kick by Waterson. Two minutes left. Not a ton of action here. Big front kick from Waterson gets Pinheiro off balance. She gets immediately back up and the fight resumes on the feet. Huge right hand connects for Pinheiro! Waterson is stunned. A combo by Pinheiro wobbles Waterson. Waterson clinches and the bell rings.

Round 2 – Big leg kick buckles Waterson. Another leg kick by Pinheiro. Pinheiro stuns Waterson with a couple of hooks and backs her against the cage. Pinheiro now pins down Waterson, lands a few good knees. Waterson gets free. Two minutes left. Waterson with a body kick, but gets caught and Pinheiro lands a couple of hooks. Pinheiro looks for a takedown, fails, but presses Waterson against the cage. Waterson almost immediately gets out. Stiff jab by Waterson. One minute left. Big right by Pinheiro. The bell rings.

Round 3 – Pinheiro pressing, Waterson on the back heel. Waterson ducks under a hook, goes for a takedown, fails, but now presses Pinheiro against the cage. Good control here by Waterson. After 20 seconds or so Pinheiro reverses the position. They break away after another 20 seconds. Three minutes left. Now Watersson is the one pressing. Good leg kick by Waterson. Body kick by Pinheiro. A spinning elbow almost connects for Waterson. Pinheiro pressing now. Neither connecting clean at the moment. One minute left. Good jab by Waterson. Waterson gets a brief takedown in the final seconds, but Pinheiro gets back up. The bell rings with Waterson pressing Pinheiro against the cage.

Both fighters are connecting clean right now. What a fight. Gastelum with the higher output. Curtis is bleeding from his right eyebrow. The bell rings.

Christian Rodriguez vs. Raul Rosas Jr.

Round 1 – Rosas immediately shoots for a takedown. He comes up short, but presses Rodriguez against the cage. Rodriguez reverses the position briefly, just to get reversed again. Rosas tries a takedown and fails. He tries again and gets it. He’s now on side control. Rodriguez reverses the position and ends on top. Rosas scrambles and now looks to takedown Rodriguez while holding him in a body lock. Rosas has Rodriguez pinned against the cage. Rosas gets the back, while Rodriguez is standing. He’s working the rear naked choke. It’s tight. Rodriguez gets out, but still has his back taken while carrying Rosas weight. Again, Rosas attemps another rear-naked choke. He comes close, but Rodriguez gets out. Rosas now has Rodriguez back while on the ground. 30 seconds left. Rosas rides out the round.

Round 2 – Rosas immediately shoots for a takedown and gets stuffed. He ends up on bottom. Rodriguez landing good shots from top. They scramble. Rosas attempts a takedown and eats a huge knee from Rodriguez. Rodriguez defends well and fight is back standing. Rosas relentless with the takedown. He controls Rodriguez against the cage, but nothing more. Rodriguez reverses Rosas and he’s now on top. Good elbows by Rodriguez. Rodriguez punishing Rosas right now on the ground. Rodriguez gets the back mount. Rosas is in trouble. One minute left. Rodriguez punishing Rosas with ground and pound while he has a body triangle on him. Rosas sees the end of the round.

Round 3 – Rosas attempted multiple takedowns, but they were all stuffed. Rodriguez went on to stuff one of his takedowns and get top control. From there it was all Rodriguez. He kept control and rained heavy ground-and-pound on Rosas. Rosas tried his best to get out but all efforts were futile. In the final seconds of a dominant round, Rodriguez let Rosas back up and then connected a few shots before the bell rang. Domminat round by Rodriguez.

Kevin Holland vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

Round 1 – Ponzinibbio comes out to pressure Holland immediately. Stiff jab by Holland. Holland with several leg kicks. Ponzinibbio keeps stalking Holland, but he’s yet to land something clean. Holland hasn’t connected a ton either, but he’s had some clear moments. Ponzinibbio doing a good job at cutting the distance, he’s connected a few shots. The two trade shots. Ponzinibbio catching up now. Oh! Ponzinibbio catches a kick and one one leg Holland drops him witha hook. He gets on him and lands ground-and-pound and the bell rings.

Round 2 – Holland comes out with heavy pressure, likely thinking Ponzinibbio is still hurt. Ponzinibbio looks composed and is fighting well. Two minutes in and nether fighter has landed anything super clean. Ponzinibbio with tons of movement, staying on the outside. Good leg kick and hook by Ponzinibbio. It seems he’s finding more success on the back heel. Good leg kicks by Ponzinibbio. Holland wobbles Ponzinibbio! Ponzinibbio closes the distance, they briefly clinch and back to striking. Nasty elbow by Holland. The bell rings.

Round 3 – Ponzinibbio came out in the third way more agressive. He landed a few leg kicks and a couple of hooks that caught Holland’s attention. Ponzinibbio walked down Holland in the first two minutes of the fight. You could tell his leg kicks were bothering Holland. Ponzinibbio much more elusive, hitting and not getting hit. Oh! Big left hook lands for Holland. Ponzinibbio falls face first, he wasn’t fully out, but the referee stopped the fight. Ponzinibbio complaining about the stoppage.

Rob Font vs. Adrian Yanez

Round 1 – The two wasted no time to get going. They traded technical shots. It was a very even contest and as the seconds went by, you began to see the damage on both. Halfway through the round, Font’s jab began stunning Yanez. It was an avalance effect, as a compromised Yanez began to fall back in the shots. Font would end up hurting bad Yanez and then went head-hunting. A right hand would shortly connect on Yanez’s chin and would sit him down. A few extra shots while grounded gave Font the win.

Gilbert Burns vs. Jorge Masvidal

Round 1 – Both guys came out very tentative. Masvidal early began using his leg kicks and staying on the outside. Although a slow paced fight at first, Masvidal began to add up. Masvidal hiding behind his jab and leg kicks. Burns tried to land that big right hand, but Masvidal saw it coming. Two minutes left and Burns tried the first takedown, but Masvidal defended well. Big right from Masvidal followed bby a one two. The crowd went wild. Burns snapped Masvidal’s head back with big hook, but Masvidal smiled. Final 10 seconds Burns gets a takedown and lands ground and pound.

Round 2 – Burns closed the distance at the very start, pressed Masvidal against the cage, and took him down. Burns unable to damage, but he controls Masvidal. The crowd boos. Three minutes in Burns is controlling Masvidal. No ground-and-pound, as Masvidal has kept Burns busy defending the escape attempts. Masvidal got up multiple times, but just to get dragged back to the ground. In the final 30 seconds, Masvidal got free. The two traded shots. Masvidal did land a clean left hook before the bell.

Round 3 – Masvidal with solid leg kicks early. Burns also had a few good jabs that connected clean. Another leg kick by Masvidal. Masvidal’s kicks are on point. Burns hurt Masvidal with a big hook. Masvidal invited more. Masvidal recovers and lands one, two. Burns again hurts Masvidal. What a chin by Masvidal. Masvidal still firing back with leg kicks. Clean one two by Masvidal. Burns again connects with a hard hook. With a minute left, Burns got a takedown. He’s controlling and landing some shots on Masvidal. Mostly control. Burns maintained control till the bell.

Alex Pereira vs. Israel Adesanya

Round 1 – Pereira immediately begins attacking Adesanya’s legs with kicks. Four or five have already connected in the first minute. Both guys very tentative, very measured. Adesanya on the outside, Pereira in the inside. Adesanya also landing a couple of leg kicks here. Three minutes left. Adesanya backing now Pereira. Pereira continuously connecting those leg kicks. The two keep sizing each other up until the bell.

Round 2 – Pereira came out way more aggressive and began hunting down Adesanya. Although Adesanya did a good job at being slick and dodging many of the bombs, Pereira snuck in many leg kicks. Pereira pushed back Adesanya against the cage and banged up his legs even more. Adesanya seemed hurt, and out of nowhere, Adesanya blasted Pereira with a huge right hand. Pereira went down OUT COLD. The fight is over. And new!
