JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The two men holding a piece of the UFC bantamweight championship came face-to-face in an intense staredown on Friday.
Champion Aljamain Sterling (20-3 MMA, 12-3 UFC) and interim champion Petr Yan (16-2 MMA, 8-1 UFC) have gone back and forth repeatedly since their first fight that ended via illegal knee disqualification. The tensions flared again in their final pre-fight staredown at the ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday.
UFC president Dana White was hesitant to allow the fighters to get too close, but both assured there would be no physical contact today, and they proceeded to exchange words before being separated.
