UFC 272: Colby Covington calls out ‘swamp trash’ Dustin Poirier after beating Jorge Masvidal in grudge match

Colby Covington delivered a dominant performance to beat former friend Jorge Masvidal in their bitter battle at UFC 272 in Las Vegas.

Covington won via unanimous decision after dominating his rival throughout the majority of their 25-minute non-title fight at the T-Mobile Arena.

The fight was the culmination of a bitter war of words between Covington and Masvidal after their long-time friendship broke down and turned into a heated rivalry.

Covington was briefly being dropped by a huge Masvidal right hand in round four but he recovered to walk away with bragging rights.

After being awarded the fight by the judges 49-46, 50-45, 50-44, Covington called out Dustin Poirier.

Poirier is another former American Top Team fighter and Covington wants another grudge match later this year.

"I just took care of Miami street trash,” said Covington. “Now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash! Dustin Poirier, you said it was ‘on sight’. Name the site, Dustin!"

A disappointed Masvidal admitted he was not at his sharpest.

"I was offbeat with the wrestling,” he said. “I need to wrestle harder. I was flat-footed today.”

The co-main event saw Rafael Dos Anjos claim a one-sided unanimous decision win over Renato Moicano.

Elsewhere, rising featherweight contender Bryce Mitchell extended his perfect professional record with a dominant win over Brazilian veteran Edson Barboza.

Kevin Holland began a new chapter as a UFC welterweight with a second-round finish of Alex Oliveira, while Moldovan heavyweight Serghei Spivac beat American Greg Hardy with a first-round stoppage.
