JAMMU: Continuing its war against the menace of drugs, Udhampur Police under the overall supervision of Sr Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur Dr Vinod Kumar on Sunday recovered huge commercial quantity of poppy straw ( Bhukki) and arrested two persons during naka checking at Jakhani naka along highway in the district.
Police said, "Police party of Police Station Udhampur while conducting routine vehicle checking at Jakhani National Highway (NH) and intercepted on a vehicle Ashok Leyland (JK04H-3149) coming from Kashmir towards Udhampur.
"During checking of said vehicle, police team recovered 239 kg of poppy straw from the said vehicle and arrested two smugglers who were smuggling the said poppy straw in the vehicle."
Police added that during questioning, the driver of the truck disclosed his identity as Nazir Ahmed son of Habib Ullah Budoo of Choon, Budgam and his associate Pervaiz son of Abdul Majeed Bhat of Beerwah, Budgam.
"In this regard, a Case FIR No. 532/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered in PS Udhampur and further investigation is underway, " police added.
